Homesharing Program to Launch in Central Virginia

A new program is launching in central Virginia to match homeowners who want to share their houses with people looking for a place to live. The nonprofit arm of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is currently accepting applications from homeowners. Homesharing typically targets seniors who need help around the house or extra income. They’re matched with graduate students or younger seniors who need affordable rent.

“What we’re trying to prevent is premature institutionalization where people are almost able to live on their own but just need that little bit of support to stay there,” said Billie Campbell, TJPDC coordinator.
