INT - hs rightThis past spring, the NSHRC conducted a survey of all match-up homesharing programs. Here are some of the highlights from the survey results:

  • Average program budget: $200,000

  • Budget breakdown for past year:

    • 46.5%  Public/government funding

    • 16.6%  Private foundations

    • 15.7%  Private benefactors

    • 7.1%  Donations

    • 10.9%  Fees for Service

    • 3.1%  Other

  • Average number of matches last year:  71

  • Average staff:  2.9

  • 83% experiencing an imbalance of Homeseekers/Homeproviders for the following reasons: challenging HP expectations/needs, HS can’t afford rents, program can’t accept criminal background, home not suitable to HS needs, lack of accessible public transportation, not enough HPs applying to share their homes

  • 35% of matches involved some sort of service exchangeCOC - homeshare1b

  • Information being tracked by homesharing programs:

    • Agreed amount of rent: 72%

    • Duration of match: 83%

    • Reason match ended: 67%

    • Satisfaction w/ program: 78%

    • Service exchange: 78%

    • Reason for homesharing: 67%

    • $ saved by homeseeker: 33%

    • $ saved by homeprovider: 33%

    • Specific demographic info: 78%

    • Trends: 44%

  • 50% of programs interested in software to electronically track information

  • Advertising/Outreach/Collaboration:

    • Colleges: 50%

    • Comm. Associations: 39%

    • EAPs: 22%

    • Foster Care: 11%

    • Hospitals:  44%

    • Church Mailings: 72%

    • Radios/PSAs: 33%

    • Wants Ads: 67%

    • Web Ads: 33%

    • Local Comm. Affairs: 22%
